Deaths by Welfare timeline public consultation begins.

What: The Deaths by Welfare project launches its timeline (co-produced by China Mills at Healing Justice Ldn, and John Pring at Disability News Service), which brings together for the first time the three decades of evidence linking DWP and its social security reforms with the deaths of disabled benefit claimants. This is part of a consultation making the timeline publically available for input and feedback.

Why significant: The timeline documents the “cumulative harm” and “slow bureaucratic violence” that has led to countless suicides and other deaths of disabled people claiming and trying to claim benefits, particularly in the post-2010 austerity era.
