DWP failed five times to follow safeguarding rules before Jodey Whiting’s suicide.
What: The Independent Case Examiner finds that DWP failed five times to follow its own safeguarding rules in the weeks leading up to the suicide of Jodey Whiting, concluding that DWP was guilty of “multiple” and “significant” failings. Jodey Whiting’s mother, Joy Dove, calls for DWP and those staff responsible to face a criminal investigation for the failures that led to the death of her daughter.
Why significant: Further evidence of safeguarding failings within DWP. Failings highlighted in the report mirror many of those in past deaths. Joy Dove will continue to campaign for Justice for Jodey in the following years.
