Supplementary Benefits Commission (SBC).
What: The SBC commissioned the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS) to conduct surveys of particular population groups to guide social policy.
Why significant: After taking over from the National Assistance Board, the SBC took on a greater role in determining the course of social policy and how to target particular groups in need, as well as expanding logistically, going from 12,000 local office employees in 1966 to double that by 1975.
